Conservation agriculture – a future model for sustainable and climate-resilient arable farming!

Climate change is increasingly changing production technology in arable farming and is presenting farmers with major challenges. What contribution can conservation agriculture make to ensure sustainable, successful and profitable farming in the future?

Conservation agriculture (no-till) is a farming system based on the principles of minimal soil disturbance, permanent ground cover and diversification of plant species. It promotes natural biological processes above and below the soil surface, thereby achieving a more efficient use of water and nutrients.

During the one-day seminar on the farm, St. Ludgeri in the district of Helmstedt, we want to provide comprehensive information to farm managers who are thinking about getting started with no-till, are about to do so or have already gained initial experience with this cultivation system.

The focus is on the question of what needs to be considered to ensure a successful entry into conservation agriculture.

The seminar begins at 9:00 a.m. with a brief welcome and company presentation. We will then focus on practical topics in compact, informative presentations:

  • Can conservation agriculture be a model for the future of arable farming?
  • What are the advantages of the system; what are the challenges?
  • Biodiversity through intercropping / Biodiversity in intercropping
  • Effects of conservation agriculture on the soil structure
  • Why no tillage – my way to no-till, a practitioner reports

The subsequent lunch break with refreshments will provide an opportunity to exchange ideas and network with colleagues and speakers.

The manufacturers will then present various seed drills suitable for no-till on a practice area. This is followed by a practical application of the equipment (no-till) in an established catch crop (planting green).
